Contemporary Omaruru is a well-loved haven for artists, but historic Omaruru
also offers something special for inhabitants and visitors alike.
This picturesque little town situated on the banks of the Omaruru River is
surrounded by mountains and set among beautiful old camel-thorn trees.
Like so many other towns in Namibia, Omaruru developed around a Rhenish
mission station that was established in 1868. This building is the oldest one
in the town and it played a significant role in the country’s late 19th and early
20th century history.
