Design April/May 2015 Vol 3 | Page 23

Once you have these elements down, your design is complete. Now you need to concentrate on the required drawings and models. The big piece that has not been looked at so far is the building as a whole. In order to do this, find suitable materials to make a model. Bass wood if you are going high end and can afford to do so, foam core, chip board, plaster or any other material you can lay your hands on. Some of the best models are made up of several materials to differentiate between different materials used in your design. Use all of the drawings that you have produced to create your model. Using an architectural scale, measure the elevations, the plans, review the section, the roof plan, and draw these onto your model building material. Cut each piece out and start to assemble your building. And be sure that you draw each piece of the building model at the same scale as your site model so that when it is done, it can be placed on your site! 23 Put all the pieces together to make a concise presentation. Everything needs to look as if it was drawn, rendered and created in the same fashion. Consistency is the key to most presentations. All the drawings have to be rendered on the same type of final paper, be it tracing or vellum, it needs to be the same as every other drawing you present. Make sure that you practise your presentation prior to presenting it. BEST OF LUCK!!! desIgn Namibia October - December 2013
