Brittany Andres is calm and composed as she reflects on the day she signed the napkin contract that would change her life . And in an odd way , it would turn out to be one of the biggest Vegas jackpots ever hit .
She had just spent two days in Las Vegas attending a conference with a new potential employer — Eric J . Troutman , known as the “ Czar ” of the TCPA . The trip was something of an extended interview , and it was an incredible opportunity to see the inner workings of an industry that would soon look to her for critical legal guidance .
The conference known as LeadsCon is promoted as the “ world ’ s largest conference and exposition on lead generation .” A show attended by thousands of Fortune 1000 marketers , lead buyers , procurement teams , agencies , and affiliates — a vast array of companies that needed the very marketing law knowledge and litigation talent Brittany is known for .
“ I didn ’ t feel overwhelmed ,” says Brittany , “ but it was certainly a huge show . And as the Czar explained matters , the place was crawling with potential clients — and troublemakers .” Then , Brittany reflects in an earnest tone : “ Attending a conference like this is always a doubleedged sword . You need to find the good guys — companies that need compliance guidance and want to do things the right way — but stay away from the bad actors .”
Brittany — who is now known widely by her nickname , “ the Baroness ”— would come to understand much more about the lead generation industry as time went on . How thousands of good businesses work hard to connect consumers with companies that can supply goods and services they want at no cost to the consumer , providing free and accurate content and resources that help aide comparison shopping . But also how some companies in the space would abuse consumers , tricking them into agreeing to receive countless robocalls with false promises . Attending shows like LeadsCon helped her to discern the good actors from the bad , a talent that would prove critical as her future firm — Troutman Amin , LLP — would go on to become the most powerful legal name in the space .
After spending two days learning the ins and outs of the industry beside the Czar — and how the incredibly high-stakes world of marketing and telecom law collided with the easy money mentality of the countless 20-something millionaires holding court at the Chandelier Bar by day and private parties in exclusive Vegas nightclubs by night — Brittany was very intrigued .
