Between 1916-1920 Annie Oakley, sharp-shooter and star of the Buffalo
Bill Wild West Show, was in charge of the Pinehurst Gun Club and gave
exhibitions twice a week.
Tennis was the first planned activity in Pinehurst, not Golf. Riding, hunting, polo and lawn bowling and archery were also popular in Pinehurst‟s
early days; many remain so today.
North Carolina‟s official toast was established in 1957. “Here‟s to the land

In Southern Pines, the Weymouth House and Gardens serve as a Writer‟s

Weymouth Woods, a 900 acre nature preserve in Southern Pines, is home
to the endangered species the Red cockaded Woodpecker, the Pine Barrens Tree Frog, and the world‟s oldest Longleaf Pine at 466 years old.
Lake Auman, located just 10 miles west of Pinehurst in Seven Lakes, is
reported as the clearest lake south of the Great Lakes, east of the Rockies, and north of Silver Springs Florida!
Seagrove, approximately 30 minutes from Pinehurst, is one of the largest
communities of potters with the longest continual history of pottery
making in the United States.
