. INTRODUCE NATURAL ELEMENTS Every home should have something natural in it like living plants , flowers , wood , stone , or even branches or driftwood . When these things delight our senses on a daily basis , it helps to ground us and renew our energy . Nature inherently speaks to our souls and helps bring meaning to every day .
. LET THE LIGHT IN Research has shown that a light , bright space makes us happier , calmer , and more productive . Give your windows a good cleaning and take down heavy drapes or blinds that block light . Open up your windows to receive the uplifting energy that comes from natural sunlight . And make sure to include enough ambient and task lighting for dark days and evenings using LED light bulbs .
. CARVE OUT YOUR SPECIAL SPOT Whether it ' s an art studio , a garage workbench , or a corner chair for reading , family members should have a spot in the home that ' s their own feel-good place to unwind . It should be comfortable and restorative to their wellbeing and a safe place that they can go to at any time . It encourages essential time for solitude and reflection .
. MAKE IT COMFORTABLE AND COSY Layer textiles and textures to warm up rooms and make them feel lived in . Area rugs that are soft underfoot , pillows to sink into , throws to wrap around you , bed linens that are fluffy and luxurious — these are details that are worth investing in for a happy , comfortable home . If budget is an issue , forsake the expensive flooring or custom cabinetry in favour of layering your home with small textural details .
. MAKE IT HEALTHY A happy home is one that promotes the well-being of mind , body , and soul . Limit the toxic chemicals in your home by cleaning with all-natural cleaners that you can make yourself from water , vinegar , and essential oils . Freshen the air with plants and essential oils , and keep windows open whenever possible . Keep ventilation filters clean . Ditch your plastic shower curtain for a PEVA shower liner . Remove old carpeting and try not to bring new vinyl or other hard materials into your home that will let off gas toxins for years to come . Use a water filter on the kitchen tap and the shower head . A healthy environment will keep you feeling your best and enjoying life .
