DENVER’S HIDDEN GEM OF HAIRSTYLING: SALON JOA
On East Colfax in Denver, two blocks west of Quebec between Stapleton
and Lowry, Salon Joa was the first tenant in the new Phoenix building
when it opened three years ago. A hidden gem with a hip flair, Salon Joa
is the culmination of the owners’ years of experience in the salon industry.
Hoa Vu and his wife, Jo, built their business from the ground up in an
area of Denver that is beginning to see a big economic turnaround.
THE IMPORTANCE OF ESTATE PLANNING
An estate plan is an essential part of financial planning. Each
person has different assets and specific financial goals that can
change over time. Therefore, no two plans are identical. Below
is a brief explanation of different options to consider when
creating your plan:
Working the barber chairs, Hoa places his attention and efforts
on male customers, offering haircuts old and new as well as the
traditional barbershop experience of straight razor shaves for faces
and heads. Jo focuses on salon services for women including up to
six chairs for stylists, a makeup and micro-blading studio, a manicure
table for six, and a comfy pedicure bench spa area with pipeless jets for
a truly clean and pampering experience. To complete your visit, you
can enjoy all of this with a cold beer, a glass of wine, or a cool mimosa
on the house. Perhaps the best part, Salon Joa not only has cuts for
kids and teens but also several iPads loaded with games to keep their
attention so they don’t need yours.
The artists working at Joa have up to twenty years of individual
experience including cutting and color artists, barbers, and nail and
makeup artists, all who are detail oriented and passionate about their
work. You know the quality of a place by how you are treated and by
the number of returning clients. One client has gone to Hoa for over
fifteen years and even drives up from the DTC with his three boys. He
told us two of his three boys, now in middle school, have never had
anyone else cut their hair. The staff at Salon Joa treats their clients like
family and creates relationships with them.
Salon Joa is busy most days—a testament to the quality of the service that
they offer—so you should make reservations for specific artists. If you are
new in town or a current resident, pay a visit and let them know we sent
you.
Without an estate plan, your estate will most likely go through
probate. This process can be costly. More importantly, your
assets may not be distributed how you would like or possibly
even expect.
• A will is a document that includes your
specific instructions for the final disposition
of your property. Generally, it is filed with
the state and a matter of public record.
• You can also use a revocable trust to transfer al l of
your property. A key difference is that a trust is private
and not a matter of public record. This is ideal when
you have minor children or own real property.
• Another plan option is a will with a testamentary
trust. These may be less expensive to create, but
they usually must go through probate, can limit the
scope of the trustee, and may cost more in the end.
Effective estate planning requires a thorough
examination of all of your financial goals and includes
many different factors. I hope this quick overview
serves as a reminder to create or review your plan.
