A big part of DHL is to promote an awareness of local businesses,
professionals, philanthropies, and educators that do an amazing job
professionally and in their communities. Through this awareness,
DHL Expert Theresa Sutton—a contributor to this issue—
discovered Veteran’s Puppy for Life and is now volunteering her
valuable time and expertise helping them manage their finances
and taxes. With that in mind, I want to challenge our readers to get
involved and volunteer in their local communities.
Volunteerism has been a big part of my own life, especially as a
youth sports coach for the past 15 years, allowing me to be a positive
influence for kids. I have also volunteered for the wonderful Veteran’s
Puppy for Life organization, which places puppies with veterans
suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, as well as the 100-year-
old Junior Achievement organization.

experience that goes far beyond just writing a check. Many people
think they have to be an expert in something in order to volunteer,
but that is not the case! Follow your passions and you may be
surprised to learn that the experience is just as valuable for you—in
recharging your batteries and creating new purpose in your life—as
for those whom you serve.
