On the outskirts of Modena , a former warehouse that calls to mind industrial archaeology was turned into a loft that houses a daylight pose room , an office / studio , a hallway with a kitchen , a dining room and a living room .
There are thousands of lofts obtained from structures previously used for a completely different purpose . Architects , interior designers and more generally the creative people are increasingly electing these modern-style housing units as a privileged place of life and work . The hands and minds of architects Marcello Zappador and Mariapia Ruggerini gave birth to this project , giving new life to a very evocative place in the Modena area : a dairy farm in an advanced state of abandonment . This architectural object represented the artisan “ factory ” par excellence ; its typological and functional features were appropriate for a new purpose . Thus , the idea of dividing the large volume into three areas , well blended by the creativity that unites them : the photo

set for the shootings as the main activity , then the studio , and the home . Let ’ s start with the photo studio : a single and airy volume where light – the leitmotif of the whole space – is guaranteed by several windows . A large ivory box , very high to meet all the needs of a studio where light radiation is homogeneous , thanks to the circular roof and the glossy resin floor that guarantee an enveloping and radiant sunlight bounce . The photoset is enclosed on the west side by a large wall , also used as a storage surface for the photographic equipment . Beyond this partition wall , there are other areas , all obtained thanks to the width of volumes , by employing the mezzanine level and specifically-created partition walls to achieve the maximum usability of spaces . The whole surface – except for the large volume of the photo set – is thus conceived as an easily accessible labyrinth , made up of “ open and close boxes ”, all interconnected and boasting independent entrances . The designers love white , light , and vintage design as well as natural sensations , a little bit smoky and faded . They chose bleached parquet flooring for all the rooms and white on the walls as a ubiquitous colour . By contrast , the choice of furnishings has turned to dark tones : rough wood , aged and antiqued by time for the large kitchen table , or in the dark brown shades of the two rosewood consoles that counterbalance the shells of the seats on the mezzanine level … Up to black , with the two iconic pieces in the sitting area , designed by the Eames couple . Few concessions to bright touches of colour , above all in the lamps , wisely measured to enhance the space , making it even more modern and lively . The structure has been designed to accommodate and satisfy the creative and professional needs of those – the owner or customers busy on set – who may use the comfortable kitchen or the sofa on the mezzanine level to relax during their work break , pampered by the bucolic context all around , made up of a rich and prolific countryside that contributes to the feeling of peace .
