SENSUAL CONTRADICTIONS
A perfect fusion between two distant worlds , that of the old and that of the new , where balance preserves and enhances both identities .
This flat – placed in Mantua and created by Studio Archiplan – represents the integration between rigour and imperfection , between clearness and randomness , between the strength of the project and the identity of the matter . The project investigates the issues related to imperfection , as well as the sensuality that arises between the precision and control of the project and an indeterminate dimension generated by time . The series of relationships between natural and artificial elements are typical of Studio Archiplan , which manages to give life to an interior design with a refined taste and a contemporary character . The result shows how to contemplate different atmospheres and contaminations in the same place . The clear and precise volumes of the furnishings fit into a space full of memory , with evident traces of history and the location , to which new values and compositional ideas are added . The highly-tactile surfaces become a precious texture on which to develop the project , starting with the irregular bricks plastered with a mixture of paint and fine sand , which become a consistent chromatic background , highlighted by the dimensional and geometric irregularities of the elements . Highlytactile consistency also marks the distinctive elements of the area : wood , the star of both the horizontal surfaces , together with some furnishing elements and details that identify the environments . The recently-built secondary structure overlaps the old beams , highlighted by the exposed frame of the ceiling . Warmth and natural beauty also come from the parquet that alternates stained oak planks of different widths , in order to give life to a floor embellished by a thousand shades of wood and design . Not only wood , but also cast-in-place concrete , which represents the original cladding of the kitchen block . There is also brass , whose metallic reflections light up the custom-designed wall unit / pantry . Almost all the furnishings are custom designed , with a few exceptions , such as the sofa and the dining table . Most have been made with poor , reclaimed or industrial materials : such as the oak kitchen , covered as already mentioned with concrete slabs . The bed , the headboard and the bedside tables have been made from wooden pallets . The wardrobe is closed by a very simple hemp curtain while bicycle inner tubes , joists , fishing lines and neon tubes have been turned into lamps . The result is a low-cost and high-impact project . Elements and objects once again investigate the issue of relationships between surfaces and volumes , finishes , details and rough matter . “ Beauty can be found everywhere and is not tied to the intrinsic value of the material . It is found above all in fragments , in evocative forms and in relationships .” Archiplan ’ s word .
