State convention provides perfect stage for district students to steal the scene A dedicated space with more than 2,000,000 square feet isn’t the ideal setting for an experiment or fireworks display. The hundreds of Denton ISD students enrolled in fine arts classes, however, didn’t let the setting of the cavernous Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center in Dallas deter them from setting off fireworks of their own in a unique artistic experience as part of the annual Texas Association of School Administrators/ Texas Association of School Boards Convention. Students showcased their skills in every artistic form imaginable, with middle school students testing their chops on the latest jazz tunes and high school students performing acrobatics normally seen in Cirque de Solei shows. “Seeing our students on a stage that grand and capturing the hearts and minds of everyone in attendance with their performances was one of the best experiences of my career in education,” said Charles Stafford, a Denton ISD school board member. “My own kids went to school here, so I’ve known we have exceptional fine arts programs for a long time. But to see it on full display, where every other school district in the state sees it, now that’s impressive.” 10 Mr. Stafford served as the TASB President during
