High�achieving juniors in the Denton
Independent School District are now guaranteed admission to Texas Woman ’ s University through the new Pioneer Promise program .
Launched in November , the program is a partnership between Denton ISD and TW� that allows district juniors who rank in the top 30 percent of their class to earn guaranteed admission to TWU . Starting in the Fall of 2016 , each high school principal will also receive a $ 2,000 renewable scholarship to award to one graduating senior , worth $ 8,000 total , helping ensure they can earn their bachelor degree from a number of nationally recognized programs .

“ TWU is one of the top universities in the state , and we see Pioneer Promise as their commitment to keeping some of our best and brightest students in their hometown to make an impact in their community during college and upon graduation ,” said Denton ISD Superintendent Dr . Jamie Wilson . “ We see this program as strengthening our partnerships with TWU and giving our students another outlet to a brighter future .”
“ More than a ‘ promise ’ of university admission , this program will provide good students with a path to education that also develops leadership skills , promotes community service and integrates a holistic approach to health and well-being — all hallmarks of a TWU education ,” said TWU Chancellor Dr . Carine M . Feyten . “ I am so proud to launch this initiative with Denton ISD , because it acknowledges the district ’ s focus on cultivating students who are prepared for success in their academic , professional and personal lives .”
The district and TWU unveiled the program with a special announcement to the entire junior class at Guyer �igh School . Students took in a short program , listened to the TWU pep band and were able to ask questions with university staff about a variety of topics .

Dr . Feyten stressed that students at TWU have the opportunity to gain global knowledge through study abroad programs , get connected to internships through the Pioneer Center for Student Excellence , and most importantly , learn from faculty dedicated to student success through small class sizes .
