Olive Stephens Elementary
Stephens Elementary School is nestled in the heart of Shady
Shores and is appropriately named for the town’s legendary civil
servant, Mrs. Olive Stephens. Mrs. Stephens led the town’s growth and
economic development for nearly four decades, serving as its mayor
for 38 years.
Being true to their school’s namesake, students at Stephens are
encouraged to do community service and volunteer with many local
organizations. In turn, many community leaders and local businesses
mentor and donate their time and resources to the school continuing
the small town feel of the area. On any given day, the campus will
be teeming school adopters, involved parents or high school student
leaders on projects or in 1-on-1 situations to give Stephens the feel of
a regular college/career fair.
The staff cultivates a positive learning environment through
CHAMPS – a proactive and positive approach to classroom
management. Students participate in student council, art club,
recycling club and safety patrol. They also work with staff to maintain
the Bulldog Nature Center, a campus outdoor learning space.
Stephens’ students have experienced high levels of success
due to the collaborative efforts of students, parents, staff and the
community. They are building a community of learners for life.
