Dr. E-M: MS is when your immune defenses attack your central nervous system (CNS) as if it were a virus or bacteria. As a result, the protective cover of nerve fibers called Myelin which helps conduct electrical signals between the brain and muscles, becomes damaged and scarred. Eventually, the fibers themselves can be affected.
