Dr. Qureshi
Dr. Qureshi began serving our community
in 1978. He was the first interventional
cardiologist in Denton County and co-
founded the cardiology program at
Medical City Denton (formerly known
as Denton Regional Medical
Center), serving as the Cardi-
ac Catheterization Lab Director
for over 25 years; he also served in that role at Medical City Lew-
isville and Presbyterian Hospital Denton. Dr. Qureshi believes
that the best cardiologists maintain an up-to-date approach to
medicine while working to take care of all the patients needs
in a holistic manner. Though Dr. Qureshi loves the practice of
cardiology and being able to help his patients both in times of
crisis or simply maintaining a higher quality of life, he especially
appreciates the personal relationships he has formed with many

of his patients. He is an avid gardener (both flowers and veg-
etable) with 4 adult children and 5 grand-children.
Lifestyle Changes
and Blood Pressure
There aren’t many risk factors more im-
portant to your health than high blood
pressure. In fact, high blood pressure
is second to only smoking as the most
preventable cause of strokes and heart
attacks. Heart disease continues to be
the leading cause of death in the United
States. On November 13, 2017 new
guidelines were released by the Ameri-
can Heart Association and the American
College of Cardiology that means millions
more Americans will need to lower their
blood pressure via lifestyle changes and/
or medications.
It is estimated that the number of men
under age 45 with a diagnosis of high
blood pressure will triple, and the num-
ber of women under 45 diagnosed
with high blood pressure will double.
It is estimated that under the new
blood pressure guidelines, nearly half of all American adults
(46% of the US population) will meet the criteria for high blood
pressure, also called hypertension. Eighty percent of adults
aged 65 and older will find that they need to take steps to
reduce their blood pressure. The number of adults with hyper-
tension will increase to 103 million (as compared to 72 mil-
lion under the previous guidelines). These estimates are scary.
