Angels Among Us
Y
By Michelle Wallace
ears ago, sometime in the mid 70’s, Billy Graham
wrote a book on angels, titled, Angels: God’s Secret Agents. Yet they’ve been in existence since
before time began. Angels are created beings.
They go unseen for the most part, because like
God, they live outside of space and time. But, every once
in a while they make themselves visible. The bible says,
“Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who
have done this have entertained angels without realizing
it!” That’s fascinating to me. They might come in and out of
our lives without our knowledge!
Other times, angels appear and there’s no denying their
existence. We read accounts of people falling out as dead
from the sheer magnitude of their presence. They really are
an interesting study. And, in these times where great darkness abounds, they are making themselves evident even
more.
On a recent trip to Vietnam to visit an orphanage we support I found their help invaluable. There are over one hundred children who live in this particular house. They are
cared for by a group of nuns, along with other caregivers
and pregnant moms considering placing their babies in the
home. The orphanage is run by a head nun who takes

great care of these children. Recently, adoption has been
reopened between the U.S. and Vietnam. The head nun
indicated she wanted willing families to adopt, though the
process may be difficult due to current restrictions. In an
attempt to show her sincerity she told us we could take a
large group of children back to the hotel where we were
staying. She said something in Vietnamese and then the
children ran to our group of 25 clinging tightly to our legs
in a seemingly desperate manner. It wasn’t long before I realized they thought this was more than an overnight trip to
the hotel. We explained the hotel wouldn’t allow us to take
all the children and tried to reassure them we loved them
very much. We told them we’d be back the next day. We
have been involved with this orphanage since the inception
and travel there at least twice a year. The children know us
and are familiar with the routine of our coming and going.
But the look of rejection on their little faces as we attempted
to leave was more than I could bear. An English speaking
nun confirmed the head mother had told the children they
were going to the hotel with us, and added, “Choose your
moms and dads.” My heart was broken. I’m going to be
completely honest, I told The Lord, I couldn’t do this again.
That night I reached out to a friend back in the states who
told me she would pray for us. I lay in bed all night staring
