spine center dedicated to providing the most effective answers to back and neck problems, Star Medical Center, a new specialty surgical hospital in Plano, TX, and OrthoCARE™, which focuses on orthopedics, foot and ankle care, and sports medicine. The urgent care industry represents one of the fastestgrowing segments in American health care. With wait times getting longer for primary and emergency-care providers, urgent care centers have become increasingly more viable. According to one study, the most common diagnosis in an urgent care center was upper respiratory condition, and the most common procedure was wound repair. And, an estimated 20 percent of all emergency room visits could have taken place at an urgent care clinic. “We want to make health care accessible and affordable for the residents and employees in Flower Mound,” said Candice Winful, MD, family practice. “Most folks don’t realize that a trip to the emergency room can cost up to 30 percent more than at an urgent care clinic.” The clinic will be staffed by a team of experienced and compassionate caregivers. Dr. Winful is a family medicine physician with a background in sports medicine. She received a BSE in engineering from the University of Michigan where she graduated with honors. She attended the University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine. She is a recognized wound and hyperbolic care physician and has additional qualifications in sports medicine. Lynne Opperman, FNP-BC, is a board certified family nurse practitioner. In her master’s degree program, she received extensive training and served as a graduate teaching assistant to BSN students. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau honor society, Texas Nurse Practitioners, North Texas Nurse Practitioners, The American College of Nurse Practitioners, and the Emergency Nurses Association. With access to the Lumin Health network of physicians, a patient who needs to be referred can see any number of specialists from physiotherapy, pain, orthopedic to spine. And if surgery is needed, Star Medical Center is an option. “Along with offering the full complement of primary care services, for patients who need to be referred to a specialist, we can get them in to see one of our specialists within 24 hours at one of our DFW locations”, said Dr. Winful. “This is really an incredible service when you consider that many times it can take weeks to see a specialist.” The clinic will also offer a complete menu of services that address the health challenges resulting from aging. Two of the many services available include LaserLIPO and bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT). LaserLIPO is an intelligent, non-surgical alternative to liposuction with low-level lasers that trigger a chemical signal in fat cells, causing them to break down. Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) uses pellets the size of a grain of rice that are inserted under the skin through a tiny incision. The pellets release the correct level of hormones based on the body’s needs. “The entire team is excited to offer the residents and employees in Flower Mound quick, convenient, comprehensive attention just minutes from their home or business,” said Opperman. “We look forward to being a trusted and engaged member of the community.” We want to make healthcare accessible and affordable for the residents and employees in Flower Mou
