ways a positive, never a
negative. Even if they have
zero coverage you can of-
fer a discount for being a
non-insured cash patient.
Our patient had his consult,
was a great candidate for
OAT, and was ready to move
forward. I discussed the in-
surance and his financial re-
sponsibility. He paid $2500
that day, and I reminded him
he could use it for taxes as
a medical expense and he
was thrilled. We scheduled
him for the first week in Jan-
uary to maximize his bene-
fits. In his case, we won’t
expect any payment from
his plan but at least he will
have a jump start on meet-
ing his deductible for 2018.
More importantly, we did
not let his high deductible
dictate his treatment and
he received the treatment
needed to realize a healthi-
er, happier life.
