STEP-BY- STEP arly in my career as a dental assistant , I was working in a run of the mill practice doing bread and butter dentistry : restorations , extractions and dentures . Yes , bread and butter will sustain life , but who wants to eat it every day … forever ?

Over time , I began working with Dr . Erin Elliott , and I began focusing on assisting with the treatment of Sleep Apnea . It is a challenging and rewarding work environment that requires the utmost care to detail and the ability to adapt to new tools , science , and resources .
As a sleep medicine coordinator / champion / ambassador , it is my job to treat each patient with individual care based on their needs . With the guidance of Dr . Elliott , I oversee and coordinate the patient ’ s treatment from the time of the initial consult to the post-treatment sleep study . Below are the steps I manage with each of our patients . The Initial Consult
This is the first step for all new sleep patients . This consult is intended to educate the patient on what Sleep Apnea is while evaluating the dental signs and symptoms . If the patient has had a sleep study , we review the diagnosis with them . This is often the first time the study has ever been reviewed with them in detail . We are here to discover the patients “ why .” This is the “ why ” they are here , “ why ” they ’ ve sought us .
Sleep Study

If the patient has not had a sleep study , one is sent home with them at the initial consult with one of our five take home sleep monitors . A diagnosis is then provided by a licensed sleep physician .
Insurance Verification
This is done to help the patients maximize their insurance benefits while minimizing their out of pocket expenditures . Once the patient agrees to forward with treatment they are scheduled for impressions .
Impressions
Custom impressions or scans are taken . They will be used by the lab to create
