“My journey into Dental
Sleep Medicine began over
8 years ago after I was diagnosed with OSA and
given CPAP with no other
treatment options. Soon
after, I read about oral
appliance therapy and attended a class taught by
Dr. John Remmers. I vividly remember him saying
that in order for OAT to
be accepted in the medical world, there has to be
a way to test and predict
which patients are good
candidates.
Since my apnea was suc-

cessfully treated with a
custom oral appliance (AHI
from 26 to 2), I decided to
incorporate OAT into my
dental practice. In 2012, I
became a Diplomate of the
ABDSM and in 2014, I sold
my general dental practice
and became MATRx certified. Today, I refer most
patients for a MATRx study
prior to treatment. Not
only has MATRx increased
my OAT success rates, it
has strengthened my relationships with Sleep Physicians and my reputation
in my community.”
