SELF-TREATMENT
For many causes where the problem is through simply extrinsic staining there are a variety of self-help
treatments available across the counter. For example there are abrasive tooth pastes that remove stubborn
stains from the outer layer of the enamel. In addition there are whitening gels and strips that can be applied
to the teeth. These are typically peroxide based solutions that stain the enamel white but require two to three
weeks at around thirty minutes a day to be affective.
However many scenarios are not so simple to remedy such as when we consider Intrinsic stains as these are
stains within the actual dentine itself making them far more difficult to remove. In this case it is best to
consult a dentist who can advise on a suitable course of treatment.
