Brush for at least two minutes
A child should brush their teeth for at least two minutes twice a day. This may seem like an impossible
task because getting a child to brush their teeth, let alone for two whole minutes, is difficult enough.
However, you can make these two minutes fun with an activity that will distract them from the fact that
they have to brush their teeth for that long.
A way to make this a fun activity instead of boring dental care is to let your child pick their own
toothbrush and toothpaste. Prior to doing this, talk to your child’s dentist at Neem dental Clinic about
the best brands to use on your child.
When it comes to brushes, ask your dentist about bristle strength and if a soft or medium brush would
be ideal. Your dentist can also advice you on the best fluoride toothpaste to use. Remember to make
sure your child spits out after brushing and doesn’t swallow the toothpaste.
When brushing, don’t let your kids get away with a job half-done. Make sure they carefully brush the
teeth at the back. Flossing is also recommended for kids, so cultivate the habit early on.
If your child has school during the week, make an appointment with a dentist open on Saturday to
discuss brushing techniques and the importance of brushing with your child present. They can ask any
questions they have and the emergency Harrow dentist can explain to them the importance of good
dental hygiene.
