Denmark: A modern healthcare system
based on innovative technology
Digitalization is the foundation on which the Danish health sector is based. Denmark is
continuously exploring new ways of optimizing and innovating health care solutions by the
use of ICT. The focus of the healthcare authorities have always been on meeting future
demands, putting the healthcare system years ahead of many other countries.

enmark has managed to integrate digitalization
and ICT solutions in almost all areas of its health
sector. Because of this, the country is regarded as
a market leader within e-health and IT based healthcare
solutions. The use of IT systems to solve national issues
and a strong pre-existing framework are together the
two factors has driven the development of Denmark’s
comprehensive digitalized healthcare system.
Denmark’s Health Law follow the principle of universal
access, which means it is a tax-funded system. With
the aging population on rise (which means higher
dependents ratio), like many other Western countries,
Denmark’s healthcare system has been under financial
pressure. Since the 1970’s, Denmark has experienced
birth rates below 2, which in turn means that the group
of elders (dependents) has grown while the size of
