Denmark can share knowledge and insights on the water
sector, waste water treatment, landscaping and recreational
spaces in cities, energy efficiency, design and buildings,
adaptation, innovation and partnerships with India.
The Danish Embassy works in various ways on Sustainable
Smart Cities. The Danish Embassy works towards a Strate-
gic Partnership with India that includes Sustainable Smart
Cities. Denmark and India have bilateral cooperation on
Sustainable and Smart Urban Development as well as on
Environment. Strategic Sector Cooperation of the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs is an initiative

Such Strategic Sector Coop-

Water Management has been
established between the Dan-
ish City of Aarhus, its partner
Aarhus Vand and the City of
Udaipur in India. This Stra-
tegic Sector Cooperation has
been established within the
Aarhus Vand Memorandum of Understand-
ing on Urban Water Manage-
ment between City of Aarhus and City of Denmark.
Bilateral Cooperation between India and Denmark
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Sustainable
and Smart Urban Development
Denmark and India signed a MoU on Sustainable and
Smart Urban Development with the objective of promoting
bilateral cooperation in the fields of sustainable and smart
urban development in April 2018. The areas of cooperation
is in the field of sustainable urban development including
smart solutions and liveability.
The cooperation will be in form of collaboration between
governments, governmental agencies, academics, experts
and other parties.

Areas of Environment with the objective of promoting a
mutually beneficial partnership in the field of environmental
sustainability in 2009. Both countries have acknowledged
the ramifications of environmental degradation and
recognized the urgency to find cost effective and lasting
solutions on environmental issues. In particular in the field
of waste water, air pollution and solid waste.
Strategic Sector Cooperation aims at:
• contributing to inclusive, sustainable growth and
development by supporting conducive framework
conditions for the fulfilment of prioritised UN SDGs
• Strengthening and expanding bilateral relations and
cooperation
• Improving the opportunities for the Danish private
sector to expand its commercial engagement and
investments and hence facilitate the contribution by the
private sector to development.
City of Udaipur and City of Aarhus cooperation on
Urban Water Management
The Mayor of Udaipur and the Mayor of Aarhus signed a
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Urban Water
Management between City of Udaipur and City of Aarhus
in end 2016. The objective is to contribute to creating more
sustainable and smart liveable cities.
