A world leading food nation invites to collaborate
In the Northern Hemisphere, there is a country of only
43,000 square kilometres surrounded by 7,314 coastline.
This is Denmark. Despite the relatively modest area – we
feed three times our own population. This is due to the high
productivity of Danish food and agricultural production.
The world’s population grows exponentially every year and
is expected to hit 9 billion by 2050. In the next 40 years,
we will need to produce as much food as we have done in
the previous 8,000 years combined. Let us share all good
know-how across countries, so we together can ensure
better food for more people.
Global Food Challenges
One of the global challenges is food waste and food loss.
According to the United Nations, today roughly one-third
of all food for human consumption gets lost or is wasted
through the value chain. That is approximately 1.3 billion
tonnes of food every year. The Danish food cluster already
offers several solutions to minimise food loss. Examples
are technologies needed for cold chain operations or
ingredients used to expand the lifetime of a product.
Solutions by Denmark
One of the cornerstones of the Danish Food Cluster is
technology and machinery. Technology and equipment is
an important part of the production for all producers who
want to produce sustainable and safe food at a reasonable
price. Danish companies are world leading in a large number
of technologies and offer a significant product portfolio of
machines and equipment, for example, cold chain operations.
This can improve efficiency, food safety and bringing down
food waste. Not only can Danish technology reduce food loss,
but it also contributes to a more standardised production
ensuring high quality at all times.
The food industry is one of the top expertise areas in
Denmark as 25% of the total Danish export of goods comes
from the Danish agricultural and food cluster. Denmark
would, therefore, like to share good experiences within the
food area.
