The Scottish Informatics and Computer Science
Alliance (SICSA) is a research pool supported by the
Scottish Funding Council. It brings together researchers
from Universities across Scotland to create one of the
largest top-quality research clusters in ICS in the world.
SICSA has three principal objectives:
1. Improve the quality of Informatics and Computer
Science research and education in Scotland
2. Contribute to economic development by working
with industry to develop and exploit our work
3. Create a coherent, national community that
represents all aspects of Scottish Informatics and
Computer Science
Informatics Ventures is a knowledge exchange program
that runs across SICSA and helps foster innovation and
entrepreneurship within start-up and spin-out
companies and develops strong relationships between
Industry and Academia. Informatics Ventures has two
primary strands of activity; Entrepreneurship – running
education events, networking sessions and investor
conferences; and Collaborative Innovation –
strengthening Industry and Academia relations and
delivering collaborative innovation activities in Cyber
Security, Data Science, Mobile Technology and Smart
Tourism.
Our research covers virtually all areas of computer
science and informatics from low-level hardware
design, through networking and middleware, to
wetware, artificial intelligence, human computer
interaction and social informatics. We are world leaders
in both theoretical and practical aspects of the discipline
and have a strong interdisciplinary tradition involving
maths, engineering, psychology, the humanities and the
social sciences.
ScotlandIS is the trade body for the information and
communications technologies (ICT) industry,
representing around 200 software, telecomms, IT and
creative technologies businesses throughout
Scotland. Their remit is to raise the profile of the industry
in Scotland, lobby policy makers on relevant issues and
support their members in the development of business
relationships with customers, suppliers and partner
companies.
