Project: Smart Beacons
Mobile devices allow access to information, and museums
want to exploit this to enhance visitor experience through
engagement with exhibits. Smart Beacons delivers content
relevant to an exhibit at indoor/outdoor locations, triggered by
BLE as the visitor explores the museum. An in-built
recommender system, which maintains user and content
models, provides a tailored experience in the form of
personalised tours and information.
This research aims to explore the issues of user experience with
new forms of interaction in the field of mobile and ubiquitous
computing. More than a billion smartphones have now been
sold and devices such as smart watches, glasses and other
wearable technologies are entering people’s lives. Thus movement and the awareness of geographic locations of the device
create new forms of interaction.

Project: CURIOS/CURIOS Mobile
How community heritage groups can produce sustainable
digital archives using linked data. How best to exploit the use of
linked data for community groups and tourists. Many
community heritage groups struggle to find sustainable
methods to digitisation collections for the long-term, this is often
due to the way in which such projects are funded.
