Maximize your strength,
minimize your weaknesses
In September Rafa Nadal opened the new Sports Centre of his Tennis Academy in
Manacor. Here, both professional sportsmen and women and amateur sports enthusiasts can
get fit with the team that the rest of the time trains and motivates world class players.
ll those who have followed the
career of the Mallorquin tennis
player Rafael Nadal will know
why his home town of Manacor
was the only location he will
have considered for the tennis academy that
bears his name. Since it opened in summer
2016, world class players such as Andy
Murray have used its new facilities for training, and its open day at the end of
September saw leading stars like Carlos
Moyá, Mats Wilander, John McEnroe and
Simon Solbas face each other on centre
court. The new complex in the Island’s third
largest municipality is principally designed
for training up-and-coming tennis players.
At the ultra-modern American International
School, the weekly timetable includes 17
hours of tennis coaching and 8 hours of
physical education, as well as mental training
and lessons in nutrition management. The
hotel wing has been open to holiday makers
since late summer, and if they book one of
the 65 minimalist rooms at the Rafa Nadal
A
60 DELUXE
Sports Academy via booking.com, use of
the health club is included. Here, within an
area of 3,000 m², sportsmen and women
will find state-of-the-art facilities: three bright
rooms with flat-screen TVs for group exercise
from Zumba to BodyCombat, an indoor
cycling studio, a gym with the latest
generation of TechnoGym equipment and a
spa with a 25m indoor pool, for aqua-fit
classes for example, as well as saunas and
steam rooms. Free Wi-Fi allows the use of the
Mywellness Cloud throughout the whole
complex where you can record your training
successes on your iPhone. Massages and
facials are also available. Day guests have
been able to use the fitness and wellness
facilities since September 30th and in future
if you wish to take out membership you will
be able to train here regularly. Tennis and
padel courts can also be booked, depending
on the membership package. Cycle hire and
golf coaching at local golf courses are further
options. A beautifully situated seminar room
can be hired by the day for events.
The Sports Café with views over the tennis
courts serves light cuisine to athletes from
breakfast through to dinner – and with any
luck you will see from the terrace Rafael
Nadal training. The comprehensive package
offered by the Rafa Nadal Sports Academy
cannot be equalled by any other hotel on
the Island. For the first time it offers athletes
and amateur sports enthusiasts of all kinds
a professional environment in which to train,
assisted by the personal trainers and
therapists from the in-house clinic Juaneda
Sport Health. Here you can enjoy a short
break focusing on physical fitness, or prepare
for a competition like a triathlon or a cycling
race at the highest level at one of the training
camps. Those looking for mental motivation
should take a tour around the Sport
Xperience Exhibition Room on the ground
floor, and look at the trophies won by Rafa
Nadal at Wimbledon in 2008 and 2010.
