HIGHWAY BILL PASSES WITH A 3-MONTH EXTENSION
Before the US Congress left for its August
recess, the US Senate passed a long-term
highway and transit bill, known as the DRIVE
Act, by a vote of 65-34.
However, the US House of
Representatives passed only a threemonth extension of the highway and transit
programs, while indicating that it plans to
work on its own version of a long-term
highway and transit bill when it returns to
Washington DC on September 8th.
With the current extension of MAP-21,
the Federal highway authorization expires
on October 29, 2015. It is difficult for State
DOTs to plan projects, and eventually place
those projects out to bid without long-term
certainty of Federal funding. That, in turn,
makes it difficult for construction-related
companies, such as Delta and Colas, to plan
for capital improvements and expansion.
Please contact your US Representative
and urge them to pass a long-term highway
and transit bill when they return from the
August recess next week.
You may contact your legislators in a
number of ways. The following websites
