HEARTLAND QC LAB WELCOMES ST. VINCENT HIGH SCHOOL
On September 17, 2014, the Heartland Asphalt
Materials QC Lab in Cape Girardeau, MO,
was visited by thirty-one Advanced Chemistry
students from St. Vincent High School in
Perryville. The students were accompanied by
their teacher, Mr. Victor Martin.
The goal of the field trip was to introduce
the students to “real life” applications of
the chemistry that they are learning, and
to (hopefully) spark an interest, so that
the students might choose to pursue the
sciences in college and beyond. To that end,
the students visited the labs at Southeast
Hospital, toured the Chemistry Department at
Southeast Missouri State University, and spent
some quality time with Iain Jack (Formulation
Chemist), Laurel McClelland (QA/QC Lab
Technician), and Quentin Kelley (Account
Manager).
The students observed QA/QC techniques
and learned about asphalt additives. Iain,
Laurel, and Quentin also discussed the different
products, how they use science to improve
roads, and what ‘green’ products are. The
students’ interests were encouraged further
by viewing a few samples of hot asphalts,
emulsions, and polymers. Following the
learning session was lunch and a Q&A session.
Delta employees shared their support of higher
education and the career steps they followed.
“The Heartland/Delta employees all have a
passion for their work and hopefully that was
evident to the students,” stated Iain Jack.
DELTA ANNOUNCES TELADOC: AN ADDED CONVENIENCE TO YOUR CURRENT HEALTH PLAN
Beginning January 2015, Delta Companies will
be offering another way to access medical care
– through the convenience of phone or on-line
video consultations with a US board-certified,
licensed physician.
If you have medical insurance through Delta
Companies, Teladoc is available for your use –
at no cost to you. That is correct – at no cost.
Teladoc is not intended to take the place
of your regular physician. However, Teladoc
services provide several advantages:
AVAILABLE 24/7/365. Quality care is only a
call or click away. You will receive a call back
from our doctors in 16 minutes, on average. It
can save you a trip to the ER in the middle of
the night.
RESOLVES many medical issues. 90% of
Teladoc members resolved their medical issue
with Teladoc. Unlike nurse-run call centers,
Teladoc doctors can diagnose, recommend
treatment, and prescribe medication, when
necessary.
WORKS from wherever you are and is perfect
for dependents who are away at college.
Teladoc from home, work, or on vacation.
Compare that with taking a day off from work to
sit in a waiting room.
COSTS YOU less money. Teladoc costs
far less than urgent care or ER visits for nonemergency medical care. The cost to DELTA
employees is ZERO co-pay.
Teladoc can be used when treating common
conditions including sinus problems, respiratory
infection, allergies, urinary tract infection,
cold and flu symptoms and many other nonemergency illnesses. Note that Teladoc is
designed to handle non-emergent medical
problems. You should NOT use it if you are
experiencing a medical emergency.
If a prescription is needed, the doctor
prescribes medication, electronically to the
pharmacy of your choice. Be aware that
Teladoc does not guarantee prescriptions. It
is up to the doctor to recommend the best
treatment. Teladoc doctors do not issue
prescriptions for substances controlled by the
DEA, non-therapeutic, and/or certain other
drugs which may be harmful because of their
potential for abuse.
According to Debbi Robinson (HR Manager),
“We believe that Teladoc will enhance the
benefits offerings to all Delta employees and
provide an added convenience. Hopefully, it
will be used – we look forward to hearing the
feedback.”
In December, a welcome kit will be mailed to
employees homes, with detailed instructions for
getting started with TELADOC. Updates will
be posted in the employee portal of the Delta
Companies website at www.deltacos.com.
