Southeast Missouri Stone Increases Efficiency Southeast Missouri Stone Co. (SEMO Stone) will be changing the way the company approaches a sustainable future. Always looking for more efficient ways to produce, SEMO will be modifying the operations schedule, moving to a one-shift operation. Plant maintenance will transition into the day production shift, allowing for a more productive repair schedule. Another adjustment to operations is to schedule a mud stripping crew, one day a week. This allows for the opening up of higher quality aggregate reserves for future mining. This quarter, SEMO Stone aggregates were supplied on the following projects: the New Madrid substation, which is taking large amounts of 1” clean commercial products and the new Walmart neighborhood market in Cape Girardeau, which is using type 1/5 road base. SEMO Stone would like to express a heartfelt “Thank you” to all the loyal customers and employees – you are what makes this company so great! Southern Illinois Stone Busy During Summer Months Southern Illinois Stone Co. (SIS) activity level has increased during the summer months, producing and delivering materials as well as replenishing the stockpile of materials. Congratulations to Short Brothers and F. H. Paschens on the successful completion of the I-57 and Highway 13 interchange. Congratulations to Southern Illinois Asphalt Co. (SIAC), for securing several new Illinois road projects. During the second quarter, SIS provided SIAC with materials for the following projects: Miller City Road project; Halverson Bridge project; Park Street project in Franklin and material to be stockpiled at the Mount Vernon plant for the I-64/I-57 project. Because of the heightened demand for Illinois aggregate products, equipment has been moved into the Buncombe Quarry from throughout the Delta Companies in order to increase stripping capacity. The extra equipment enables the opening up of production ledges while allowing the production of product in tandem. SIS has hired additional employees in order to utilize the additional equipment and gear up to handle the volume of expected production. Southern Illinois Stone was inspected thoroughly by MSHA over a two-day period. According to Greg Edwards (Quarry Manager), “The results of the inspection netted just three minor citations which we quickly addressed. Our goal is to achieve no citations at all, and we continuously work to make this goal a reality.” The team at SIS does an excellent job with the safety program and has improved housekeeping within the plant.
