Servant-Leader. One phrase to describe Chapter President, Veronica Tutt.
Soror Tutt is the final Sisterhood Spotlight for the 2018-2019 sororal year.
Her duties as President extend far outside of the “required” list of
responsibilities. Soror President is not just the leader of JAC she is also
an encourager, inspiring members to be their best; a communicator,
being open and honest with the chapter membership; and an innovator,
leading the chapter to win several awards under her leadership.
Soror Tutt’s career in the United States Navy has prepared her for
leadership in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Within her 34+
year career, her duty stations included several cities across the United
States including right here in Jacksonville. Through the course of her career she obtained her
Masters Degree in Human Resource Management from Chapman University.
Her leadership skills were brought to the forefront in 1995 as Soror Tutt became the first African-
American woman selected as a Master Chief in the Full Time Support Program. Truly a remarkable
accomplishment. After numerous other awards (Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Navy and
Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Navy and Marien Corp Commendation Medal), she retired from
the US Navy in 2006.
Soror Tutt also has a long leadership history in the Jacksonville Alumnae Chapter. She has
been a member of the chapter for over 20 years and within that time has served in several
capacities on the executive board—including the positions of Historian, Financial Secretary, First
Vice President and President. Several committees have benefited from her leadership and
participation—from chairing the Membership and Finance committees to Health & Fitness and
the International Awareness committees; Soror Tutt has truly immersed herself in the
Jacksonville Alumnae Chapter and propelled the chapter to new heights.
Under her leadership, the Jacksonville Alumnae Chapter earned several awards including
Chapter of the Year (large) in 2016 and the Dr. Paulette C. Walker Social Action award in
2017. Most recently, Soror Tutt was the recipient of the Southern Region’s inaugural Dr.
Yvonne Kennedy Leadership Award at the 54 th National Convention in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Soror Tutt describes her leadership style as a “servant leader.” She is always committed to
leadership that encourages unity, empowerment and dedication. Jacksonville Alumnae is
grateful for her sacrifice that this position requires and sends every best wish for the future.
