By: Soror Lisa Sykes
A week long of May Week activities ended with the
highly anticipated Winona Cargile Alexander Super
Senior Luncheon held on May 11, 2019 at the UF
Health Learning Resource Center. The May Week &
Scholarship Committee partnered with the UF
Department of Community Health and Family Medicine
to recognize graduating seniors that represented top
ranks and honors in their class.
These scholars were met with inspiring words by
Mistress of Ceremony, Courtney Cole of Action News
Jax, motivating remarks by Dr. Pradeep Kadambi, UF
Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, and a
phenomenal message by Hospitalist of Internal Medicine,
Dr. Barry Wright, who encouraged students to make
positive decisions that will help them “Draft Blueprints for
their Future Success”.
Other highlights of the event included the recognition of
Raines High School Football Coach Deran Wiley as the
2019 Distinguished Pillar, as well as, seven (7)
seniors receiving $2,000 in scholarships for
their academic and leadership excellence.
There was a catered post-ceremony reception
where honorees and their proud parents
enjoyed lunch and sounds of smooth jazz.
Guests were quite pleased and impressed.
Several commented on how much they
enjoyed the luncheon and appreciate the
Chapter investing in the future of our youth.
