Miss Delta Teen
Finishes School Year with
Impressive Accolades
By: Soror Ingrid Bethel
Our reigning queen Mia Uzzell is ending her junior year at Darnell-Cookman School of the
Medical Arts (SOMA) with an impressive list of accomplishments and high expectations for a
stellar senior year. After being inducted into the National Honor Society, serving as a Junior Class
Officer and placing in the Miss SOMA Pageant Royal Court over the past school year, Mia was
recently recognized by the City of
Jacksonville and Duval County
Public Schools with commemorative
certificates and medals for being a top
underclassmen scholar, African American
Brain Brawl competition champion and
Superintendent Leadership Academy
Student Ambassador. As a Student
Ambassador, Mia participated in a focus
group of select students who had the
honor of interviewing the finalists who vied
for the position of Duval County School
Superintendent. Mia especially enjoyed the
opportunity to meet the finalists and
discuss their respective strategic plans for
the school district and its students.
Over the summer, Mia looks forward to
availing herself of internship opportunities
with the Urban League, making more
motivational appearances as Miss Delta
Teen, working in her Aunt Nicole’s
fashion boutique “Pretty Pieces” and
exploring college options.
Congratulations, Mia! Keep reaching for
the stars!
