S isterhood potlight By: Soror Altoria White Soror Jackie Nash was born, raised and educated in the River City. She spent 40 years in the field of Social Work across the country, and retired from the state of Florida in 2006. While her strengths are community organizing, mental health and medical social work for over 17 years, Soror Nash has worked equally hard as a member of the Jacksonville Alumnae Chapter—initiated in 2003. She has been recognized for her work as the recipient of a number of awards in the community, including the Nelson Mandela Award through an international HIV/AIDS project in South Africa; the 2003 Outstanding Woman in Public Health Jackie Nash award; and the 2013 recipient of the Sarah Cotton Award for work in Mental Health. Soror Nash has worked diligently within the Jacksonville Alumnae Chapter, as our past Chapter Chaplain and particularly in the fields of social action. She is the glue for the Jacksonville Alumnae Chapter social action committee, where she has chaired and co-chaired for the past seven years. As chair she led the chapter to receive the first Dr. Paulette C. Walker Award for Social Action and she was instrumental in the chapter’s collaboration with American Association University Women. Working tirelessly for the Jacksonville community, she is also instrumental in the collection of over 700 petitions for Florida Rights Restoration. She continues to lead the chapter each year at World AIDS Week where the chapter was recognized by the World AIDS committee with the 2016 Impact Award. Retirement looks good on Soror Nash as she enjoying her years doing as much as she can while she can for others! Her present focus is to assist in the development of a faith-based model for addressing “Make our community better by daily identifying what needs to be done and doing something about it.” Soror Jackie Nash
