Abbott’s Mill Nature Center’s
35 th Anniversary
35 years of Natural History and a Commitment to Conservation
In 2016, Delaware Nature Society commemorated
the 35 th Anniversary of our Abbott’s Mill Nature
Center – Delaware’s only preserved, working
gristmill. This represents a unique partnership
between Delaware Nature Society, Delaware’s
Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs, and
Delaware’s Division of Fish and Wildlife. Abbott’s Mill
Nature Center has grown from its humble 27-acre
beginnings to include 483 acres of conserved
lands throughout Sussex County, including Blair’s
Pond Nature Preserve, Isaacs and Isaacs-Greene
Preserves, and Marvel Saltmarsh Preserve.
Throughout the year of 2016, Abbott’s Mill
Nature Center held several events honoring its
35 th Anniversary. Abbott’s Mill hosted Patagonia’s
The New Localism Documentary Film Festival,
its inaugural Run the Mill 5K (which has become
an annual tradition for Abbott’s), Meal at the Mill
(a farm-to-table inspired menu paired with Dogfish
Head beer), and perennial favorite, Autumn at
Abbott’s Festival. Thank you to Abbott’s Mill Nature
Center’s 35 th Anniversary sponsors for your support.
The year-long celebration was a true success.
