What ’ s an obstacle you overcame when you were first selling technology ? I learned early on that I would not be successful selling technology unless I understood how it worked , why we had a superior product , what problems it solved and how
How have you adapted your sales strategies to accommodate the increase in remote work ? When COVID first hit us , we had to quickly pivot to 100 % remote . This put stress on many , but we all adapted . Now , however , I think we need the pendulum to swing back to a more hybrid model . In sales , it ’ s incredibly important to have face-to-face collaboration with team members , customers and partners . I encourage team members to show up in the office , show up at our customer locations and show up at our partner locations a few days a week .
What qualities and practices are necessary for professional success ? I firmly believe that working hard is the great equalizer . Also , let people know your values and what you stand for . Help those who might be struggling . Look out for each other . And action . Actions speak louder than words . Be bold . Be the first one to act . Be a leader .
Were there any transitional moments in your life that impacted your career ? I was a goldsmith and gemologist , and I opened a jewelry store with my brother . But after he died from leukemia , I decided to make a life change . I accepted a job as a janitor at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station while I finished my associate ’ s degree . I knew it was a first step in my career journey . I climbed the ladder from clean room technician to payload technician , from test engineer to network then systems engineer . During that time , I continued with school , completing my bachelor ’ s degree and various IT certificates .
What ’ s your advice to someone interested in taking a risk and changing careers ? Follow your passions and do what makes you happy . If you are confident in your decision and prepared for the challenges ahead , then you ’ re more likely to succeed . Keep a positive outlook , especially through trying times , and be persistent in your attempts to realize your goals .
​Career vs . job . What ’ s the difference ? ​A job is something you do to pay the bills . A career is something you do out of passion .
Would you take a trip to space ? Absolutely ! But orbital flights opening up to the public are starting at $ 50 million , so I may need to wait until the price drops a little .
What ’ s something that no one could find on your resume that has helped you get where you are today ? ​I work like I ’ m the owner .
