Letter from our Executive Directors
Friends,
2018 has ushered in some exciting changes and opportunities for Delaware Nature Society.
In January, Brian Winslow resigned as Executive Director. Delaware Nature Society thanks
Brian for his many contributions to the organization and his passionate advocacy on behalf of
Delaware’s natural resources. Anne Harper, previously Director of Sites will serve as Acting
Executive Director. Anne has more than 20 years of experience in non-profit leadership and
management in organizations dedicated to environmental education and youth development.
Current Director of Development and Marketing Joanne McGeoch will be the acting Deputy
Executive Director. Joanne has 15 years of leadership experience in development serving
non-profits throughout the greater Philadelphia region, the last 10 years of which have
been environmentally focused. With an emphasis on fundraising and capacity building,
her expanded role will support strategic growth and impact.
Delaware Nature Society will continue to take proactive measures on many important
issues on behalf of our environment including ensuring clean water; safeguarding land and
habitat protection, and adapting for a changing climate and clean energy.
In addition, we will begin laying the foundation and framework for our regenerative
agriculture program at Coverdale Farm Preserve. The article contained within the
Nature Explorer presents our high-level objectives for this first phase of recently completed
Master Plan for Coverdale Farm Preserve.
As we’ve done for the last 53 years, Delaware Nature Society continues to be a leader
in environmental education by serving our community through high-quality nature-based
programs for all ages. Contained within is an exciting new education program called RENEW
that is focused on making nature experiences more accessible to Wilmington city youth.
Please consider how you may join in our efforts, whether it’s taking a naturalist led hike,
participating in our annual horseshoe crab survey, or expanding your bird sightings in our
trip to Ecuador, we are certain there is something wonderful to see and do with us this year.
