Conference Theme : Belonging
Our 2024 conference focuses on belonging as a critical issue to ensure equity and inclusion in education . Students cannot learn effectively unless they feel a sense of belonging . Our students ’ diversity can encompass multiple characteristics , such as race , color , ethnicity , religion , gender identity , sexual orientation , physical ability , neurodiversity , socioeconomic status , and citizenship status , among others . Our conference focuses on strategies for helping students with such diverse characteristics feel a sense of belonging both inside and outside of their classes . In addition to instructional and co-curricular strategies that support student belonging , we also focus on fostering the belonging of students , faculty , and staff within the broader institution . Our presentations are geared toward educators , administrators , and staff members in PK-12 and higher education , as well interested students and community members .
Program Overview
After opening remarks , our first evening begins with a keynote address , Fostering a Sense of Belonging : Creating Community and Connection , presented by Elizabeth Ortiz , Ed . D , followed by a selection of three concurrent presentations . Our second evening has two sessions of three concurrent presentations . In addition , we offer asynchronous poster presentations which may be accessed during the conference and up to a month afterward .
