Aaron Barlin , M . S . Ed , ( he / they ) began as a high school English teacher and has since become a Diversity , Equity and Inclusion ( DEI ) strategist . He is the co-founder of Emergent Change | DEI Consulting : a team of former classroom educators who transfer teaching tactics to organizational initiatives rooted in growth , learning , and positive change . Aaron has spent over 9 years nurturing learning around DEI , based on an extensive background in pedagogical tactics . From leading the California Teachers Union to expand social justice frameworks among educators , to reimagining districtwide curriculum to foster collective action among colleagues and students , to serving as faculty at the Rex and Margaret School of Education — Aaron is a DEI consultant who , first and foremost , remains a teacher .
