Dionne Wright-Chambers is an educator , community organizer and advocate . She focuses her work on abolitionist teachings to creating a beloved community for all human beings to live and flourish and be productive members of our society .
Rebecca Lamar is an author , activist , curator , and storyteller . Living in community in Philadelphia with family and friends , Rebecca focuses efforts on education of young children / teachers and producing art / opportunities for all to find their place and peace within the community , the world and ART around them .

Track B : Teaching Strategies to Engage Diverse Voices Session 2B : Engaging Students Deeply and Collaboratively : Intentionally Designing and Facilitating Inclusive Learning Environments through the Universal Design for Learning and Culturally Responsive Frameworks
This interactive presentation will describe the unique applications of the guidelines and checkpoints of the Universal Design for Learning ( UDL ) Engagement principle ( CAST , 2018 ) cross walked with Hammond ’ s ( 2015 ) culturally responsive teaching ( CRT ) strategies through an appreciative inquiry ( AI ) approach ( Whitney & Trosten-Bloom , 2010 ). More specifically , while embracing the best of what is and what could be within our learning spaces , both online and on ground , we can align the UDL Engagement guidelines with the eight competencies of CRT to design inclusive instructional practices for diverse learners . This includes rapport and trust building , providing WISE feedback , and being a warm demander , all of which map back onto the UDL Engagement checkpoints .

Dr . Rob LeGary is director of the Master of Education ( M . Ed .) in teacher leadership joint-degree program at Goodwin University and University of Bridgeport in Connecticut . He is an assistant professor and senior teaching fellow with 20 years of experience in special education leadership and programming . His scholarship interests include Universal Design for Learning ( UDL ), higher education faculty development , and inclusive pedagogy and andragogy .
