Liliana Madrid ( she / ella ) is the Special Assistant to the President for Diversity , Equity , and Inclusion at Meredith College in Raleigh , North Carolina . As a first-generation Salvadorian American from Compton , CA , she has spent her professional career on the East Coast working with non-profit and higher education institutions around issues of diversity , equity , and inclusion ( DEI ). Prior to her current role , she served as the Director for DEI within the Division of Academic and Student Affairs and as an Assistant Dean of Students & Director of Intercultural Development at Lafayette College . Outside of higher education , she serves as a board member of LatinxEd .
Liliana ’ s focus is supporting historically underrepresented students at historically white institutions . To this aim , she has worked directly with students to provide support , advocacy , outreach , and programming . In her various roles , she has also worked with faculty and staff to provide cultural competency training and develop strategic DEI initiatives that create sustainable change in culture and policy .
Liliana received her Bachelor ’ s from Trinity College and her Master ’ s in Higher Education Administration from Bay Path University . She is currently a doctoral student in the Educational Leadership , Policy , and Human Development program with a concentration on Equity , Opportunity , and Justice at North Carolina State University .

Concurrent Breakout Session : Motivation and Attitudes toward Learning a Second Language : A Comparison between Students in the U . S . and Israel
This comparative study examines the cultural dimension of motivation and attitude of students in the U . S . and Israel towards learning a second language . Four groups of students are studied – Korean- American students learning Korean , English Learners learning English , Arabic-speaking students learning Hebrew , and Arabic-speaking students learning English . The panel will discuss the results of survey and interview data .
