Despite the fact that the Hurricane debilitated many of these businesses for months, the feisty little city hooked in its claws and refused to be dragged down.
Other businesses look to the future as well. The New York Water Taxi is increasing the amount of bumpers on its piers, and are looking to create better power systems to prevent future damage to its docks. The Pratt Institute is working with the Fairway to make it waterproof as well. Brooklyn Crab, a restaurant in Red Hook, was the only business that suffered very little damage, because of its unique stilted structure twelve feet off the ground. It may serve as a model for the years to come for the businesses in Red Hook.
