These constructions are conceptual approaches, part fictional documentation and research, part
prophetic illustrations. They continue the work Gellatly has been doing for some years with the notion
of botanicals. While addressing the precepts of the Deering Estate at Cutler’s eco art sensibility, the
work incorporates ideas that are typical to Southern Florida, yet imply an uncertain time frame. Working
mostly from self generated imagery- photos, painting, some found, these works are built in Photoshop.
Gellatly has been living and working in Miami for the last 2+ years, having relocated from Connecticut.
He has shown regionally as well as nationally in group/solo shows. Gellatly has been the recipient of
several artist residencies - Vermont Studio Center '11, Millay Artists Colony '10, and currently a Project
Resident under Deering's Eco Art Program. He has been a recipient of a National Endowment for the
Arts Grant, the Pollock/Krasner Grant, and 3 Individual Artist Grants from the state of Connecticut.
Gellatly has also been working as a freelance illustrator for the last 20+ years.
