Easy Breezy is a kinetic light sculpture built specifically for the In Deep exhibit at the Deering Estate.
Easy Breezy is a wind generator made from commonly found household objects and was designed to
work in conjunction with the amazing sea breeze that graces the Deering Estate coastline. When the
wind activates the sculpture, the electricity generated illuminates an emergency exit sign mounted on the
sculpture. Wind generators are not a new technology and not one thought applicable for the intermittent
wind here in south Florida, however it does work and it works in partnership with our environment
rather than against it. The artist’s work has always explored man’s relationships with energy, the environment,
and the contradictions and ironies that result from this symbiosis.
Ryan Farrell is a Miami based artist who creates sculptures and interactive installations that play with
the broad and personal relationship we have with our environment and our energy production and
consumption. He often uses found and reclaimed objects that have their own symbolic meaning and
often exist as the byproduct of our consumptive lifestyles.
