Mark Dion is known for making art out of fieldwork, incorporating elements of biology, archaeology,
ethnography, and the history of science, and applying to his artwork methodologies generally used for
pure science. The artist has a longstanding interest in exploring how ideas about natural history are visualized
and how they circulate in society. Dion’s work has been presented at many U.S. and international museums
and galleries, including solo exhibitions at the Tate Gallery, London; the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts,
San Francisco; and The Museum of Modern Art, New York. Courtesy of the A.I.R.I.E. Collection
Dana Sherwood is a New York based artist whose work lies in the collision of nature and artifice and the
inherent curiosity therein. It negotiates the balance between human and non-human life forms to interrogate
the semiotics of desire and melancholia present in the intersection of the natural and material worlds.
Since receiving a BFA from the University of Maine in 2004 Sherwood has exhibited her work in New York
at Marianne Boesky Gallery, Mixed Greens Gallery, Socrates Sculpture Park, Flux Factoryand the Biennial
of Western NY. In 2012 Sherwood was the artist in residence for AIRIE (Artists in Residence in the Everglades).
She currently lives in Washington Heights with her husband and frequent collaborator, Mark Dion.
