RONTHERIN RATLIFF Untitled I, II, III (from the series Engrossed) 3 Mixed Media ‘sandwich’ sculptures from a series of 144 ‘sandwiches’ 5 x 5 x 5 6 x 11 x 9 6 x 5 x 5 From the Collection of Rosie Gordon-Wallace “Engrossed” is the result of a contemplation of the things Ronther Ratliff relishes- information he is digesting and sources of mental and physical sustenance in life. Each piece in this assemblage art series [of 144 sculptures] takes the shape of a brimming sandwich. The bread slices are cut from wood or cast from glass, cement, or metal. The “fixings” inside the slices of bread consist of the remnants of past work, primarily from prior mixed-media assemblages and installations. Rontherin Ratliff, a native of New Orleans, was a 2014 recipient of the Joan Mitchell Center Artist-In-Residence Program in New Orleans. www.rontherin.com
