2014 SWIMSUIT ISSUE looked to me like we would have a one-day window of NW windswell and warm weather. I had been deep into multiple productions, a feature documentary film, a commercial fashion shoot, and the day at Dos Pueblos was something I looked forward to sharing with my friends. The short of it is that the day was perfect in every way. Our models are not models per se, they are surfers. The site itself, Rancho Dos Pueblos, has great historic significance. The beach resides at the bottom of a coastal canyon. The stream that runs through it used to have two separate Chumash tribes living on opposite sides of its banks. The Schultes’ have been incredibly generous in letting me use it for television, motion picture, and fashion productions over multiple decades, and I have worked with some amazing people at the venerable rancho, the largest of the original Spanish Land Grants, when in her prime. That we could come back here and produce a wonderful experience for everyone was incredibly beautiful, and made possible by Pablo and the Schultes. Gaviota is sort of magical in the manner it can hand you the most deliciously idyllic experience in creation. Over the years I have taken to calling this occurence the Chumash Blessing. It is something unique to experience. 3 2 1 60 1. Asia in Odina Bombora top and bottoms. Available at www.odinasurf.com. 2. Bronson in Reef Playa trunks.
