Celebrating Early Success at Jersey Shore Area Senior High School
The 24 / 25 School Year is well underway here at Jersey Shore and our students and staff deserve to be commended for a great start . During the opening presentations this year , we talked about where we are and where we ’ re headed . We presented the students and our community with information from our Targeted School for Improvement designation .
The high school was challenged with the idea that our recent data is not indicative of what we ’ re truly capable of and we ’ re confident we ’ ll get where we need to be with a little hard work . Like last year , we offered a message from Hamish Brewer , author of Relentless , “ When school is a place to learn from mistakes and grow as a result , we then begin to serve our real mission : preparing students to live a purposeful and intentional life .”
In line with this message , JSASHS focused on being more intentional with some of our daily operations . We ’ ve added some structured SHORE time each Tuesday and Thursday , ensuring all teachers would be available for 30 minutes , if students need extra help . Administration sent out weekly reports to students and families , alerting those that are falling short of expectations that we ’ re ready to help get them back on track . Teachers are staying after school on Wednesdays for our After School Program . We ’ ve also added a check-in piece to our traditional study hall , allowing students to communicate with their supervising teacher about what ’ s coming and where they might need some extra support . Teachers are then strategically helping students make those connections , especially on Tuesdays and Thursdays .
Our students have responded and we ’ re very proud of their success . In the first marking period , 182 students earned Distinguished Honors . An additional 152 students have made the Honor Roll . Not only that , but at the end of the marking period , the number of students failing at least one course has been reduced by nearly 100 students , compared to this time last year . Our School Wide Positive Behavior PLC is finalizing some celebrations to recognize our students and staff for such a great start .
In true Bulldog Nation fashion , we ’ re not shying away from a challenge , we ’ re facing it head-on ! Our students and staff enter the building each day ready to put in the work and deserve to be commended for the early returns . It ’ s a great day to be a Bulldog !
