JERSEY SHORE AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT STUDENTS EXTEND GRATITUDE TO VETERANS FOR VETERANS DAY
In a heartwarming display of patriotism and gratitude , elementary school students from the Jersey Shore School District came together to create handcrafted cards for veterans , in honor of Veterans Day . This heartfelt initiative is part of the district ' s ongoing commitment to instill the values of respect , appreciation , and community engagement in its young students .
The cards , decorated with colorful drawings and heartwarming messages , will be distributed to local veterans during Geisinger-Jersey Shore Hospital and Geisinger Medical Center-Muncy ’ s annual veteran appreciation dinner this week . The project serves as a reminder of the importance of recognizing and honoring the brave men and women who have dedicated their lives to protect our nation .
" The Jersey Shore School District is proud to have our students coming together to honor our veterans ," said Jon Jean , elementary principal of the Jersey Shore School District . " We believe it is crucial for our students to learn about the sacrifices made by our veterans and understand the significance of Veterans Day . This project not only provides an opportunity for our children to express their gratitude , but also helps them connect with their community and the importance of giving back ."
Students expressed great enthusiasm over being able to say “ thank you ” to our veterans . Some comments included :
“ My grandpa was in the military and I ’ m very proud of him !” --- “ I ’ m glad I can tell the veterans thank you for keeping me safe .” --- “ I hope I can be in the military and help people when I grow up .” --- “ I love them because they gave us freedom .”
In celebration of Veterans Day and to thank local veterans for their service to our country , approximately 3,000 meals were served to U . S . military veterans and guests during our annual drive-through veteran appreciation dinners at 11 locations across Geisinger ’ s footprint in November . The dinners were provided at no cost to participants .
