A Note From The Editor :
One of the most heartwarming things about the holiday season is the generosity it sparks among us . If you ' re feeling inspired to give to a worthy cause , please consider area shelters and rescues that struggle daily to take care of homeless pets . It ' s been an incredibly difficult year for so many of them ; most are maxed out and closed to intakes - not just because of a lack of space , but for financial challenges , as well . While it ' s fun to bring these dogs and cats cute toys and treats , don ' t forget about the boring stuff that keeps these organizations running - dog and cat food , of course , but also things like cat litter , cleaning products , and office supplies , such as copy paper and stamps . We asked five area rescues this month to provide us with their " Wish Lists " - you ' ll find them on page 9 . Of course , all of them say the very best thing you can do is adopt ! And volunteers and fosters are always appreciated . Some rescues offer the opportunity to foster a pet for the holidays . This gives the cats , dogs , and employees a much-needed break . The staff has less animals to take care of over this busy season , and the dogs and cats get to enjoy a family atmosphere for a few days , making them more sociable and adoptable . Think about opening your heart and home to this awesome experience . Who knows ? You might fall in love with your four-legged foster and gain a new member of the family . What a wonderful Christmas gift that would be !
